After a late night, we woke up early the next day and took the bus to Venice. After only a few minutes walking around, we realized that a paper map isn't of much use. The city is like a labyrinth and finding our way around was nearly impossible. So we just started wandering. We had Nate's stroller with us. We must have asked him to stand up and sit down a thousand times.
We took a gondola around noon. Perfect timing since this is when the city rests and there were no motor boats in the canals. At one point it was totally silent and we got the kids to settle down. The gondola man even commented on how quiet it was and the fact that we lucked out.
We wandered the whole day day. Around each corner something new.
We stumbled upon and old barber shop and got Nate all trimmed up.
By the end of the day we were done. Only trouble was, we didn't know where we were and we couldn't get out. So we ended up meeting up with a kid from the US Army. If got my phoe out and used the compass to set a west bearing based on the direction of the Grand Canal and we just kept heading west. We eventually made it out. We had our last dinner in Venice on a canal. Not the cheapest dinner that we ever had, but it was decent.
Everything was packed up the next day and we headed to the airport. A long day of travel. We were at the Venice Airport at 10:00am and we got back to our house in Qatar at 4:30am after a three hour layover in Dubai.
What a great trip. It is a place that we would like to visit again since there is so much more to see.
Caio!
